Improve your chances of getting PTSD Disability benefits. Medical records and documentation are key.
Obviously, the folks at the Social Security Administration (SSA) do not live with you and don’t see what you are going through on a daily basis. That’s why medical records and documentation are extremely important. Ask your friends and family to keep a journal of your behavior and be sure to see your psychologist or psychiatrist regularly. Your records should contain:
- A detailed description of a typical PTSD episode, including the frequency and duration of any panic attacks and what brought on the symptoms.
- Descriptions of your symptoms. These could include a persistent fear of an object, activity or situation; severe panic attacks; intense apprehension, fear or terror; or recurrent obsessions, compulsions or recollections that caused distress.
- Descriptions of how your symptoms prohibit your ability to function at home, at work, and in social situations.
