Have heart problems? The last thing you need is financial stress, too.

Get Disability for Congestive Heart Failure.

Congestive heart failure is a serious medical condition that occurs when the heart is unable to pump enough blood throughout the body. Although the name suggests that the heart has failed or stopped, that’s not the case.

Congestive, or chronic, heart failure is a long-term illness that gets worse over time. It can cause weakness, irregular heartbeat, shortness of breath, coughing, nausea, lack of appetite, weight gain from fluid retention, and swelling in the legs and other extremities.

Get Disability for Congestive Heart Failure - SSDJHelpNow.com

Individuals who have congestive heart failure could be declared disabled by the Social Security Administration during the initial application stage if they meet certain criteria. In order to qualify, you must prove through medical records and diagnostic evidence that your condition is chronic and that you are undergoing treatment for either systolic or diastolic heart failure:

Evidence, please. To meet the Social Security Administration’s criteria for Disability for Congestive Heart Failure, you’ll need medical records – lots of them.

Systolic failure: This occurs when the heart is unable to contract and pump out blood. To meet this criteria, one of the following must be shown:

  • The heart’s ejection fraction – the percentage of blood pumped out of the heart with each beat – is 30 percent or less during a period of stability; or
  • The heart’s left ventricular end diastolic dimensions are larger than 6.0 cm

Diastolic failure: This occurs when the heart is unable to relax and fill properly. The following must be shown to meet this criteria:

  • Left ventricular wall plus septal thickness is 2.5 cm or larger when imaged
  • An enlarged left atrium 4.5 cm or larger, and
  • Normal or elevated ejection fraction during a period of stability
